The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is taking visitor engagement to the next level with exciting new virtual learning tools, made possible through the generous support of the Jekyll Island Foundation. Thanks to their funding and commitment to conservation education, we now have a live-stream camera and interactive tablet to enhance the guest experience and provide new ways to connect with our work.

The live-stream camera ensures that no visitor misses the important rehabilitation happening right next door from the main building. This technology brings our rehabilitation efforts to life, offering a unique glimpse into the care and recovery process. This state-of-the-art camera gives us the flexibility needed to highlight various tanks, turtles, and care tasks performed throughout the day.

The interactive tablet is another exciting addition, housing videos, photos, and educational content that deepen understanding of sea turtle conservation. Through this resource, visitors can learn about patient stories, medical treatments, and the broader challenges facing sea turtles in the wild. The tablet also serves as a connection tool for virtual field trips.  During the 2022-2023 school year, the Georgia Sea Turtle Center reached nearly 500 students across six different states, expanding our conservation education beyond Jekyll Island.

These tools not only improve accessibility but also open the door for expanded virtual programming. In the future, we hope to use this technology for remote learning sessions. Thanks to the Jekyll Island Foundation’s support, we’re creating more ways for people—both onsite and online—to engage with our mission of sea turtle rehabilitation and education.

Come see these new features in action and discover how innovation is helping us share the incredible stories of our patients, one turtle at a time!

The patients and staff at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center (GSTC) deeply appreciate the generous support from the Jekyll Island Foundation and island visitors. Your contributions make a significant impact on local wildlife conservation efforts.
