A Landscape Renewed
A Front-Row Seat to Restoration
These new viewing platforms are part of the Jekyll Island Authority Conservation Department’s extensive restoration of portions of the former Oleander Golf Course.
Transforming fifty-two acres into a thriving wildlife corridor, the project is breathing life back into iconic landscapes, including maritime grasslands and longleaf pine savannas, while providing recreational access that offers an immersive experience for visitors.
As a centerpiece of the project, four new wildlife viewing platforms will provide fresh perspectives over both the Amphitheater Pond and the tide-influenced Oleander Pond, offering breathtaking views into a vibrant ecosystem where wildlife is once again flourishing.
Designed to Make Nature Visible to All
Each station combines inclusive viewing heights with enhanced optics, helping more visitors experience the island’s wildlife.
Children
A lower viewing head gives younger visitors an appropriate and comfortable viewing height.
Wheelchair Users
The ADA-accessible viewer is positioned to support visitors using wheelchairs and other mobility devices.
Color Vision
EnChroma color-enhancing optics provide increased contrast for visitors with color vision deficiency.
Inclusive Design
Two viewing heights. One shared experience.
Each permanent observation station is designed to make wildlife viewing easier, more comfortable, and more engaging for a wide range of visitors.
- A standard-height viewer for standing adults
- A lower ADA-accessible viewer for children and seated visitors
- EnChroma color-enhancing optics improve contrast and detail for colorblind visitors.
- Smooth panning to follow birds and wildlife across the landscape
- A durable educational resource for generations of visitors
