Mr. Roberts founded Roberts Civil Engineering in 2009 amid the Great Recession when an advisor at the Small Business Administration said that a new engineering business would not succeed because many established firms were closing or struggling to stay afloat. Resolved to overcome the odds, the 27-year-old Mr. Roberts solicited a sincere, value-added approach to potential clients yielding several small projects in the first year of business. Determined to build lasting relationships, he consistently exceeded his client’s expectations. Through a high level of responsiveness and focus on the success of each client, Roberts Civil Engineering grew organically. As a result of recommendations from satisfied customers, the size and complexity of the projects increased, and excellent team members were added. The firm grew to 6 staff members by 2017 when Mr. Roberts organized a strategic plan for continued growth. His three-year plan detailed the establishment of three new office locations along the coast, aspiring to grow the company by 300%. His ambitious vision was realized at the beginning of 2020. Roberts Civil Engineering currently employs more than 20 people with locations in St. Simons Island, Georgia, Savannah, Georgia, Jacksonville, Florida, and Charleston, South Carolina. Even more important than the growth in numbers was the establishment of the company culture based on serving others. The core purpose to improve lives brings significance to every interaction and project. Kindness and integrity are at the top of the company’s value system with weekly acknowledgments for team members who exemplify those ideals. Mr. Roberts is most pleased when he hears that a client or an employee has been positively affected by their experience with the firm.
Mr. Roberts was educated at the University of Georgia receiving a degree in Agricultural Engineering with Honors in 2004. He earned his Professional Engineering license with the State of Georgia in 2009 and is now registered in Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina.
Mr. Roberts resides in St. Simons Island, Georgia with his wife Meredith and his son and daughter. He is involved in the community and regularly volunteers at St. Simons Community Church and as a coach on his children’s sports teams. He is an avid runner competing in eight marathons including two Boston Marathons. His favorite hobbies include snow skiing, hunting, and offshore fishing.
